I would like to post my personal experience regarding rosacea. I've
had it for many years and had two separate laser treatments to reduce
broken capillaries on the face.
I suffer periodical outbreaks. I understand that people with rosacea
are very individual in their treatment needs, and I'd like to add my
own experience.
1) I was prescribed Noritate (metronidazole cream) which has worked
quite well, except for my latest episode. However, it's a
prescription.
2) One time I tried using "Nix" for rosacea (a lice pesticide). I
found the instructions on the web. Although it did work well, I will
never use it again because I've since read that it can be very
dangerous and side effects could be (up to) death or permanent
injuries to brain, etc.
3) For my latest episode which resisted even my prescribed medicine, I
tried the following, which I did last night: (a) First, I put rose oil
on my face and allowed it to stay on for half an hour. This stuff
tingles/stings and made my face even more red temporarily. However,
I'm personally convinced it's a powerful microbe killer. (b) After
half an hour I washed off the rose oil thoroughly with Cetaphil
Antibacterial Gentle Cleansing Bar Soap. (c) Followed by a GENEROUS
slathering on of Zinc Oxide. The Zinc Oxide is soothing and I left it
on all night. I looked like a Kabuki dancer, but everyone's asleep,
anyway.
4) I bought the rose oil at a health food store and the Cetaphil Soap
and Zinc Oxide at the drug store. The Zinc Oxide is in the baby
department (normally used for diaper rash).
This morning my face was 95% better with large patches of clear skin
and only a little red with a couple pimples left. I feel that the rose
oil, Cetaphil soap, and zinc oxide are all very safe ingredients and
for me, at least, very effective. No prescription needed.
