moustache rash!

Hi group,

As soon as I graduated high school, I grew out the fuzz on my chin. A
couple years later it turned into a real goatee, and I only trimmed it
since then...until a week ago. I trimmed the moustache portion, but
when it was trimmed (very short) it looked like it had been growing in
two different colors--a top line dark and a lower line very light. I
shaved it off to find that the upper line was actually red skin...and
it's still there. It looks like a little pencil moustache that's not
actually there. I don't want to have to grow it back in order to hide
it...what should I do to clear it up? I'm afraid to shave my chin for
fear I'll have the same problem!
