For me it took three days.

Day one: They gave me the risk management consent form, which comes packaged in
a sort of oversized brochure filled with drawings of deformed babies and
comprehensive lists of Accutane's possible side effects.

Day two: I got my blood drawn, at one of those freestanding labs you see in
strip malls.

Day three: I returned to the Dermatologist with my signed consent form. He
reviewed my lab results and wrote the prescription on the spot.


There's a bit more of a rigmarole if you are female. The doctor is mandated by
the FDA to bare knuckle box you before writing a prescription. I believe, also,
a blood oath is involved.
