Hi guys, I'm almost a month into my accutane and all is good except my
bottom lip is dry and cracked constantly! I'm using Blistex at the
moment but I have to re-apply every 5 minutes! Could somebody suggest
something better, that lasts longer and is available in Canada?

Thanks,

Buddee.

I'm also about one month(18pills) into treetment 40 mgs a day. I use
aquaphor. It does'nt last very long but my lips have'nt cracked yet.
It looks prett shinny when you put it on so i use more of it at night
and less during the day. I was using cetaphil moisteriser on my face
but I have stopped. Let me know what your using(soaps/moisterizer). It
might help me out. thanks.

I don't think Blistex will cut it.

On all my Accutane courses, I used Vaseline Lip Therapy Petroleum
Jelly. It had sunblock in it (there are different SPF levels: I used
SPF 15). I kept a little plastic tube of it with me at all times. I
did the job.

I'm only on 20mg a day, going up to 40 in a week. Fortunately my facial
acne dissappeared a few years ago and I'm now blessed with flawless facial
skin, I even get compliments constantly, go figure! Anyways, I'm using the
accutane for my back and shoulders. My face does get quite dry and I use
Clinique M cream for men. Good stuff. My skin (facial) isn't sensitive
like it used to be so I don't know if it will work for you but it's worth
a shot I suppose.

I just use plain old vaseline (white petroleum jelly) which lasts for a
couple of hours and is much cheaper than any form of chapstick.

Hey man I'm using a wonderful product called Lipolèvres. made by La
Roche-Posay. I'm not sure if you can get OTC but my derm prescribed it to me
and it's really wonderful. It cost like 15$ for the stick. I'm only on Week
1 of accutane, so the dryness is not that bad yet, but i still need the
product else it will hurt. Anyways, it last very long, unless you drink
something or wet your lips (duh) and it doesnt make the lips look all funny.

BTW, Accutane aint that bad. No breakout on the face (only a bit on the
chest and back). Then again, I'm only on week1 so we will see.

I'm going to get a tattoo that covers my whole body, of myself, only
taller.

I remember constantly applying Chapstick being the best alternative I could
ever find. I didn't know about it at the time, but the lip product I find
longest lasting for my long runs is called Carmex. (I call it "Carnauba wax
for lips.") I get it in a small tube for a buck, and it's not tasty, but it
clings for a good hour of strenuous running, so I don't complain.

Chapstick also makes an all natural lip balm based on carnuba:

http://www.chapstick.com/natural/index.asp

I got a tube at Target stores. The formula also includes a derivative
of Vitamin E.

I'm not fond of putting on any lip balm, whether it's aquaphor
(petrolatum based) or most sticks (which are wax-based). After the
stuff is on your lips, where does it go? On your tongue and down your
throat, where it can cause inflammation or irritation. It also winds
up in your digestive tract. Thus, whatever you do use, you should be
cautious about not using too much.
