Does anyone know how to get lab tests without a doctor's order? I live
in a smallish town. Because of the administrative hassles, the only
dermotologist available to me is unwilling to prescribe accutane at
this time. I have done a course 10 years ago without complications,
but now have a milder case that is not being helped much by a variety
of topicals as well as minocycline 200 mg per day (for >3 years now).
I have ordered on line and feel very comfortable with self prescribing
because of my medical back ground, research and past experience.

On the other hand, I'd like to monitor my liver enzymes and
triglycerides if possible. Thanks.

Assuming you cannot get the labs done without a doctor, maybe you could
tell your dermatologist that you were seriously considering
self-medicating and ask him if he would be willing to monitor your
blood levels. How do you think he would react?

And actually, that might indicate to him how serious you are about
solving your acne problem.

It's interesting that he is not willing to prescribe you Accutane but
he is willing to prescribe you a drug that has potential side-effects
-- rare liver problems, hyperpigmentation -- while simulaneously being
ineffective (in your case).

accutane-are the blood tests necessary - When I last took roaccutane years ago I had to take blood tests regularly. Do we still need to do that ? I mean has anything ever turned up in a blood test that was significant during accutane treatment ? cheers

Accutane - I have to go on accutane. How bad does the acne gets worse the first weeks? Is it so bad that you can't go out? Currently, my acne is not so bad but I want it TO GO AWAY AND NEVER COME BACK.

Accutane - Hi there. Im just posting a question about accutane and its effect. Iv been on it for 1 month now. Im 5ft10 and about 65kg. I take 20mg one day and then 40mg next day. Keep alternating like that. So far tho i have not see any effect of accutane. I dont..

Accutane 7th day - Ok, eyes not so dry in the morning anymore. Odd thing is that I haven't had any new acne show up since day 3 and the old stuff has been dissappearing nicely. Sorry Lauksna! Buddee.

Accutane : Day 1 , Cap 1 - Well, the inevitable has happened. Just took my first pill. Luckily Accutane won't be expensive at all... I take 2 x 40mg per day. Normal price is 240$ CAD but it will actually cost me 70$ CAD, thanks to my insurances. Oh we'll see how it goes
