I've been using Retin-A for 4 weeks today and I think I'm gonna leave it.

After about 2 weeks it's just been really aggrivating my skin, a lot of
redness, itchy, peeling, and scabbing etc.

It has cleared up my skin though which is good, although I might give
something else a try.

I've heard good things about Differin? Is this as harsh as Retin-A? Any
other suggestions?

Thanks
nick

ps. I live in Australia and don't have access to Retin-A Micro.

If you wait 20 minutes after cleansing and drying
your face before applying retinoids, it makes a
big difference in the amount of "aggravation" you
experience. Another option is to apply it every
other day. These tips aren't usually given out by
your very busy derma-a-doc. I found the "wait 20
minutes" tip in the leaflet in very small print.
Good luck... I'm glad it cleared your acne.
Retinoids never did much for me other than make my
skin burn when I perspire playing tennis... forget
that... I'm too active to have my face on fire
half the time.
My most recent "find" that seems to be working
best is Walter's (post's here sometimes) Demodex
Solutions creams. I'm the clearest I've been in
20+ years and no stinging or pills. I like
that... I don't like to take anything other than
vitamins. I've eaten a truck load of Minocin over
the years with no results... ugh.

When I started differin it would burn after a few seconds. I couldnt have it
on for more then a few minutes before it hurt too much. After a few weeks I
didnt feel anything when I put it on. My face is always realy dry after
washing it in the morning but simple moisturizer fixes that. Try putting on
the Retin-A while your face is still wet- wash your face and dont dry it
before putting it on. I do this with differin and it spreads evenly with a
much smaller amount. I dont know about Retin-A but with differin theres no
point in putting on more than whats required to cover the area.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm still using the Retin-A, and It's not burning/itching as much any more
for the following reason:

I use to have 2 showers a day, one in the morning (to wash off the Retin-A),
and one at night, to cleanse my skin and then apply Retin-A. I found that
this was too much and it was drying out my skins alot. Instead I now have
only a shower in the morning, and just wash my face over the sink at night
with mild to warm water. Seems to have done the trick!

cheers
nick

I agree with Chere here! Wait at least 20 min after washing your face
before applying. Then try applying it every other day or even every third
day. This is how I have to use the Renova my doc gave me. I have been
using it for over a couple months and I still have to be careful and only
apply it every couple days. If I apply it more often my skin gets red,
irritated and flakey but if I don't over use it my skin looks much better.
Keep at it.
