Hi everybody!
I am 21. I had acne since 7th grade. At first it was severe till 17 and I
was antibiotics for two years, after high school till now is very mild but I
still get pimples and cysts once in a while. I read that sulfur is great for
acne. Can anyone recommend a good product?
Thanks

Ahh, to be 21 again ! Anyway, as adults the old standbys like BP and
Salicylic Acid are too harsh. I've had some success with sulfur
products though. I'd recommend Proactive's Refining Mask and I've had
some success with Clearasil Acne Treatment Cream with sulfur (8%) and
resorcinol (2%) . It's made specifically for adult skin.

Hope it works for you ! - Tom D. -

Walmart sells "Pomada de Azufre" sulfur ointment (yellow jar) for cheap,
and it works just as well as any other sulfur topical I've used. It's
heavy and smells (like all sulfur stuff), so it's good to use at night.
WOrks well.

Sulfur is good stuff. I get sulfur soap from Chinatown. I usually leave a
bit of residue on purposely.

OK, I have looked for that sulfur stuff from Walmart, and could not find
anything remotly close to it.
I do know that sulfur will help clear up acne, but am having a hard time of
finding it anywhere, and I do come from a large city. The closest thing I have
been able to find with sulfur in it is a masque called Queen Helene Mint Julip
Masque. I am looking for something that is going to work fairly quick.I am
starting my 4th week of antibiotics (Keflex 500mg twice a day) and Tazorac
cream, although I had to give up the cream as it totally made me break out ( my
doctor assured me everything will get worse before it gets better). I would
prefer to keep Accutane out of the picture, as my doctor told me this was a bad
drug (I was on it 20 years ago when I was 16). Any thoughts?

It is in the ethnic section. I don't know why Walmart does this, but
they tend to put ethnic hair and skin products grouped in one area of
the health and beauty aids. Lots of Spanish language labeled products
and African-American hair stuff and whatnot in this little section. My
local one has it by the shampoos, but I've seen the ethnic hair/skin
section on other aisles in other wally worlds. The pharmacist should
know where it is, I would think.

Here's a great page on sulfur products:
http://www.safe2use.com/scabiesboard/messages2004/27451.html

They also sell the pomada de azufre at dollar general stores.
http://surp.dollardays.com/detailview.asp?itemid=114883 (scroll down to
third one, iirc) has a pic of it. It's a yellow/orange labeled jar, you
can't miss it on the shelf once you know what to look for.

Does your acne get worse when you try a new product? - Whats the standard time frame for that "new product flare-up"? You know, the bad breakout you get after starting a new prescription acne product? Is there really such a thing? I was using Retin-A Micro for a couple of months but it was WAY too...

Sulfur soap - Hi all, Has anyone here, tried the 10% sulfur soap bar, with 3% salicylic acid? Thanks, Butch

Sulfur soap - I just got some of this stuff to try because my derm reccommended it. A question for the people who use it...how do you get the sulfur smell out of your skin after a shower? I really hate the smell.

sulfur to kill demodex - hey. i was just wondering why we can't use sulfur ointment to kill our demodexes. it is much cheaper, and plus it's transparent.

Colloidal or precipitated sulfur - What's the difference between the two? I used the Sal-3 soap from sulfursoap.com that contains 10% precipitated sulfur. I noticed that kaviskin.com sells a bar that contains 2% colloidal sulfur and claims that it's the same strength.
