Hi, I've been taking between 1.5grams and 2 grams of B5 for about 2-3
weeks now. I'm noticing that my sleep is disrupted, I am terribly
fatigued during the day, and I'm getting headaches.
I wonder if it could B5. I doubt it because I'm taking such a low dose
as opposed to the 10 grams that some people take.
I'm NOT taking a B-Complex in addition to the B5. Could the B5 without
the Complex be leading to these side effects?
I also started taking Proscar/Propecia (finasteride) around the same
time for thinning hair, which might also be the cause.
If B5 is causing this, is it likely to go away after a while, or does
it mean that the B5 routine is simply not for me?
Thanks >> Stay informed about: Can B5 cause fatigue and headaches? |

Both are very common side effects, especially initially. (Probably the
most common side effects).
The headaches are usually due to dehydration (due to the increased
urination as your body processes the extra vitamin). Drink more water,
and they should go away.
Sleep disturbance usually settle down, but try to take your last B5 dose
before 5 or 6pm. Taken too close to bedtime will keep you awake.
Both should settle down within weeks if you drink more water and take
the pills earlier in the day.
Oh, and absolutely take a B-complex. Esp. if thinning hair is an issue,
you can't afford to run low on biotin.

Thanks Kita. The side-effects are common even with the low dose of
1.5-2 grams a day? >> Stay informed about: Can B5 cause fatigue and headaches? |

yes, I had both at 1g a day.
(1gram a day is still considered megadosing, and the body has to adjust
to the increased vitamin processing.. Although the sleep thing is often
just connected to how late you take the last dose. (Esp. since B5 is
usually energizing the first few weeks..)

Another side effect from taking B5 late in the day is that you have really weird, bizarre (but not necessarily unpleasant) dreams
which are vivid in your mind when you wake up!

I didn't know about B5 affecting your sleep or dreams. I always take 5g
right before I go to bed and I've never had any of the described problems. I
suppose everyone's system reacts differently. >> Stay informed about: Can B5 cause fatigue and headaches? |

Yeah, YMMV about everything skin related, it seems!
Why are you taking so much in one dose, btw? (as opposed to spread out)? >> Stay informed about: Can B5 cause fatigue and headaches? |

Right, sorry, I meant "why are you taking them all at once?".
B5 works best when doses are spread throughout the day, as you are
taking them. (But most people don't take them before bed because of the
sleep disturbances).
