Any ideas appreciated, either side of my nose and on and inbetween my
eyebrows is extremely red, flaky and itchy. on some days it almost feels
like a burn. I have the same condition in an area 30 cm across the
middle of my chest. Have tried moisturisers some of which burn (perfume
i guess!). E45 didn't work vaseline even the steroid cream the doctor
gave me. I drink plenty of water and take vitamins and essential oil
supplements. Nothing works. Some days the redness is almost gone and i
think it's going then it flares up again.

Thanks in advance.

Day

This sounds similar to what I fought for years. Mine got very damp
and greasy, and left a crust (in addition to flaky skin) if not washed
often. I got it under control with Head & Shoulders dandruff shampoo
(but it burned when applied to raw areas). Unfortunately the active
ingredient in H&S (pyrithione zinc) is not only a good antimicrobial
agent, it also stunts the growth of hair, and even attacks skin if
left on long enough.

Now I keep it under control with an application of a mix of oils
applied a half hour before bathing. I mix about equal volumes of
eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil, gum camphor (in a waxy block) and
spirits of turpentine (to help the gum camphor dissolve). The mixture
is very aromatic and takes my breath away if I inhale too much of the
fumes, and it is no doubt, quite flammable.

Selsun Blue shampoo seems to work almost as well as the Head &
Shoulders, but the menthol (cold feeling) is sort of annoying on the
face.

This is hereditary and very common. Although, this could also be a
sign of B-vitamin deficiency. Try a good B-complex vitamin along with
either flax, fish or hempseed oil. Taking these orally will always be
better than topically, but topically can also be a good 1-2 punch on
the problem.

Here is a rundown on them relating to skin:

Vitamin B1 aids skin health by helping to keep the circulation normal.

Vitamin B2 or riboflavin deficiency can lead to brown pigmentation, or
liver spots on the skin. These ugly spots usually disappear if
generous amounts of vitamin B2 are given over a period of six months.
Severe riboflavin deficiency can lead to oily skin and hair and small
deposits of fat under the skin of the cheeks and forehead and behind
the ears. More severe deficiency of riboflavin causes the skin under
the nose and at the comers of the eyes and mouth to crack and become
sore.

Vitamin B6 or pyridoxine deficiency can result in dermatitis or
eczema.

Niacin deficiency can also cause an eczema type of skin eruption with
brown pigmentation, largely on the face, forearms and legs.

Deficiency of pantothenic acid, para-aminobenzoic acid, and biotin:
This also leads to types of eczema. The symptoms will go away
completely when these vitamins are generously added to the diet.

Hope this helps
