I was on Accutane for three or four months three years ago. Since
coming off of it I get around one blemish per month. In the past four
months or so this number has increased - not unmanageable but still
annoying - and it has gotten me thinking about perhaps trying a second
course of Accutane. I don't want to be on the drug for as long as I
was before (my acne is not as severe as it was before my first
treatment either). Is a one-month second course of Accutane unheard
of? I am just not looking forward to the side-effects and I dont want
my hair to get any thinner than it is now. What does a typical second
course look like? Any answer would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Angie

The typical second course is the full thing, I believe.

However, 6 years after my first course, a derm put me on what he called
a "booster course": 6 weeks at 20mg/day and 4 weeks at 40mg/day. That's
2.5 months at fairly low dosages for my body weight (my full courses
have typically been 4-5 months at 80mg/day).

The booster course did nothing for me, even while I was on it, so a
short time later I ended up on second full course (as well as a third
and a fourth, eventually). Your milage may vary.

I don't think a one-month course would do any good, myself. It would be
better to do a longer, lower-dose course. Also unless you're buying the
stuff online I'm not sure many doctors would go though all the paperwork
hassle that accutane involves for only a month's dosage.
