| I have to go on accutane. How bad does the acne gets worse the first weeks?
Is it so bad that you can't go out? Currently, my acne is not so bad but I
want it TO GO AWAY AND NEVER COME BACK.

I won't sugar coat it...it gets exponentially worse. I didn't care though, I
still had to get up and go to work everyday (no choice). People noticed and
asked me what was happening, why was my skin getting so bad. I told them I
went on Accutane and it gets worse before it gets better. End of story, no
one asked me again. It was really bad the first 4 or so weeks and slowly
started going away after that. Around 12-14 weeks it was almost completely
gone, just the stubborn places to the right and left of my mouth. I woke up
around week 20 and my skin was perfectly clear, but my derm kept me on it
for 4 weeks following that to make sure.
That was 7 years ago this month and I am still perfectly clear.
It sux at the beginning, but I wouldn't trade my clear skin for the world! >> Stay informed about: Accutane |

Thanks for the reply.
I'm glad that it worked well for you.
Me too I hope that someday my skin will be clear. I also have to work
everyday, take the metro and the bus. I'm not sure if I will be able to
handle it. Anyways, I'll see how bad it is when I begin my course.

Hi.
I started accutane about 3 weeks ago. On wednesday i will have been taking
it a month. I never really had a bad break out period. I got 1 or 2 spots
but nothing out of the ordinary. I am still gettin the odd little ones but
nothing serious. I have not noticed my acne clearin up yet tho. I still have
very blotchy skin. By the sounds of it i am going to have 2 wait another few
weeks before i start seing an improvement. Do most people see improvements
at week 12 then or is it dependant on each individual case?

It never happened to me. I started out at the full dose for my weight
and it just kept getting better..
I had been on anti-biotics for about year before starting accutane.
I had a sinus infection just before starting accutane and I had to
finish up the anti-biotics for that, so there a week or so that they
overlapped. That may have helped forestall the "breakout" by giving
the accutane time to kick in.

to prevent the initial break out.
