Archived from groups: alt>skincare>acne (more info?)

Hey guys

Today is my first day of accutane - I weigh 130 lbs and was given a
dosage of 40 mg - Once per day.

Question 1: Does it matter when I take this pill? I currently am
taking it at dinnertime with food and lots of water and all that jazz.

Question 2: Can I take supplements like Vitamin C and Vitamin E - how
many IU's of each, and WHEN? Because I have heard that if you take
Vitamin E shortly after or before accutane then it lessens the
absorption.

Question 3: Can I play basketball when I take this stuff?

Question 4: What can reduce the redness that comes later on accutane?

Question 5: What is a good morning moisturizer? I bought cetaphil
moisturizer but heard that it's really thick and best for nightime
moisturizer.

Question 6: What's the best chapstick to use? Is it true that you
should avoid menthol as an ingredient?

It's recommended around dinnertime (with foud, so lunch could be ok too, I
guess). I took and take my pills during dinner or shortly after with just
one glass of water.

I'm not sure of how much you may take, just make sure you don't take vitamin
A. I took and take a vitamin C (800%) time release capsule.

> Question 3: Can I play basketball when I take this stuff?

Why shouldn't you? There may be some minor joint-pains, which is mentioned
as a side effect, though it's rare. But if you do, you'll know when to stop,
I guess. Good luck.
Greetz,

*2nd course: 40 mg/day*

I had to take two pills one day and three pills the next and so on...so I
took the first one with breakfast and the second one when I got home from
work. And on the days of three, I took one at breakies, lunch and, dinner.

I'm not a big pill popper so I didn't take anything with it. I think C and E
are safe in the *recommended* amounts, but as already stated. Do not take
Vitamin A!!

> > Question 3: Can I play basketball when I take this stuff?

I don't see why not...

>Question 4: What can reduce the redness that comes later on accutane?

I never heard of this side effect and didn't experience it, so I don't know
how to deal with it.

>Question 5: What is a good morning moisturizer? I bought cetaphil

I use clinique total turnaround cream. It disappears completely. I just wear
that and lipstick. I do not know what the ingredients are though, it may
conflict. It is anti-wrinkle...

I have never used anything but Carmex my whole life (esp. during Accutane)
and I don't plan on chaninging it now! Never heard of the methol avoidance
thing.

Best of luck.

6 years and still perfectly clear! ^_^ L

With food, it's absorbed best when taken with fat, if I remember that
correctly.

Dont know about that, you should avoid supplementing Vitamin A or
eating foods high in Vitamin A, unless your Dr OK's it.

If you feel like it.

No redness in my case, cant say.

Aveeno worked the best for me, Cetaphil actually made my skin peel
off.

For me, it was plain old Vaseline in the tube. Or just Aveeno lotion.

I've heard this a lot, vit e supplements causing acne, as well as
topical vit e causing acne. I don't know if it's anecdotal or proven,
but it seems pretty common.

absolutely topical vit e causes breakouts for me. it's like a thick, clogging oil. unless it's listed at the
very bottom of the ingredient list, i never buy anything with vit e in it for the face. Cetaphil lotion
for example, REEKS of vitamin e. Good lotion for hands though(and other stuff..)..very good ingredients in
it..no junk.
