Hi - I have been taking Roaccutane (or Accutane as it's called in the
US) for the last 8 months!

It has been amazing and completely cleared my face and most of my
back.

However I am about to finish my course of treatment (2 days left!) and
I am worried all my spots will come back! It is truely my worst
nightmare ever.

Has anyone reading this stopped taking Accutane after a successful
course of treatment, only to find all their spots come back?

Or has anyone reading this stopped taking Accutane after a successful
course of treatment and their spots have NEVER returned?

Thanks in advance - I am a bit worried.

Paul

Paul,

You really can't predict if your acne will come back or not. Mine did.
Others did not.

I don't think you need to nightmare yet. I am the farthest thing from
knowledgeable on accutane, but IIRC, if the breakouts DO return, it
takes a while for them to show up (like a year or more). They don't just
pop up the day after you stop taking accutane.

I think it sends acne into "remission" or whatever, forever, for a
percentage, and the rest will need more than one course, or long term
low dose. Or they just move on to other stuff. I forget what the
percentages are, but I've read them somewhere.

At any rate, don't stress out. If it comes back, you can go on another
course of accutane or low dose. But afaik, you should stay clear for at
least half a year, no matter what happens after that..

Paul,
Cross your fingers your one of the lucky ones for which it sticks
permanently... mine came back to a much lesser degree.. so altho i was a
little bummed it didnt stay away forver..i'm still 100 times better off for
taking it.. now i can seem to control my skin to some degree with OTC
products..wheras before.. it almost seemed useless...do some studying and
searching through the group and based on your skintype.. have a good
regimine setup for when you come off the accutane.
good luck.
deuce.

Unfortunately mine came back after 2-3 years. It wasn't so bad when it
did but for the past few months my face has become really horrible.
Just like it was before I was on Roaccutane. But I don't want to do
another course of it, afraid of what it'll do to my liver in the long
run so now I'm taking Doxycycline. I've only been on it for 2 weeks
and so far no positive effects yet. I'm hoping it'll take a while so
let's see til I finish my course. My doctor has also given me samples
of some AHA facial wash and lotion called Therapeutic Dermatologic
Formula. Has anyone ever tried it? I think it's from the same makers
as NeoStrata, which didn't do much for me at all.

Mine has just came back this year, after using it in 2001. It's never
returned on my back which is good, but my face has mild acne, which i am now
treating with Retin-A and is working well.
