Post subject: Seeking additional info about a topical treatment I used to treat rosacea
Archived from groups: alt>skincare>acne (more info?)

When I was around 24 I had my first experience with rosacea when a
area underneath my right eye reddoned and became scaly. This also
when I learned I was allergic to tetricyclines when I blew up like a
blueberry after taking some "miocine" my sister had been prescribed to
treat acne. After trying various things to try and treat it myself
after about a month and the visit to the er for an intravenous dose of
benedryl I had succeeded in doing nothing to improve the problem. In
fact the area had actually become larger I was very self concious of
it and as a result I began using something called "bagbalm" on the
area to conseal the flaking which was more embarrassing than the fact
that it was red atleast that was my opinion. The fact that I used
bagbalm was not because I thought it would help but because it was
available and seemed to last the longest at what I was usiong it for.
Had vasiline been in the cabinet I would have used it as the two are
very similar. In any event after about 3 weeks the area had receded
and the redness was noticably reduced to the point where I stopped
treating it. It began to come back after a week so again I started
treating it and continued well after it had almost dissapeared out of
fear it might return. Eventually I stopped cannot say exactly but
since than I have not experienced it as badly but I have had a fewq
lesser outbreaks that went away before they became as bad. Does anyone
know if this is already been discovered or someone who can tell me if
the bagbalm was responsible or could peanut butter have been just as
effective? Certainly washing and scrubbing was not. I read the
ingredients used in bag balm which is sold as a treatment for cows
with sore tits. The product contained lanolin and e hydroxyquinoline
in a petrolatum lanolin base. I first learned of it at a nursing home
where it was used for the problems of incontinence and I purchased it
to relieve chapped lips the product listed chappped lips as one of the
things it was good for and carmex seemed to me to make things worse if
I stopped using it on a regular basis.

It sounds more like you had sebhoria. Which, I can't spell, btw. I have
that as well. It comes and goes by itself so the bagbalm might not have had
anything to do with it. There are specific meds for treating this
condition.

Actually I not yet taken the time to get a doctor to give it a name
but my reason for visited this group today After showering I noticed
that the area right behind both ears was very red so as to look badly
sunburnt but I have not been outside long enough in the last 4-5 days.
I knew this was something else and I grew a little concerned about it.
After reading a few sites regarding rosesea and it's symptoms which
explained some other things I have wondered about like this condition
is especially prevalent among people like myself who flush. rosy
cheeks in the cold and couple of other things that I have or have had
that differentiate the two problems. But aside from the first time I
noticed it I have never had anything that would make me consult a
doctor. I however occasionally wish I could do something about the dry
skin.

Personally, I think you should make an appointment to see a doctor and find
out what it is. If it is sebbhoria, then you can use the meds and it will
go away. Their topicals, by the way. It's a condition that is usually
brought on by stress or foods. That doesn't mean that you don't also have
rosacea. I have it all. But I do not flush nor do I have white skin. I
have had no recurrances of sebbhoria since changing my diet.

The sites most commonly affected by sebbhoria are: around the eyes, around
the ears, around the mouth and along the nose. I also would get spots on my
legs. My worst spots on my face were in front of one ear and under my eyes.
The redness stays, though, it doesn't go away like a flush. And it may
really itch.

What kind of moisturizer are you using?

If I remember correctly it was more of a food allergy thing. So, not just
one or two foods, but foods that you are allergic to.
