I have had a weird problem for the past two or three years. Periodically, I
get very odd acne-like breakouts in my scalp. The pimples are that large,
painful, subterranean kind. These breakouts seem to occur for no reason,
sometimes accompanied by mild facial breakouts. After a few days of
Minocycline and Zinc shampoo, they gradually subside. Generally, it is weeks
or months before they recur. The only thing I can think of is some kind of
food allergy. I do eat a lot of seafood and sushi, including raw tuna,
salmon, mackerel and other fish. Could it be iodine or mercury poisoning? I
am otherwise healthy, take reasonable amounts of vitamins and minerals, and
exercise four or five times a week. If anyone has any clues, I would be very
appreciative for your thoughts. Thanks.

Maya

Hi Maya,

If you can, you should see an allergist. Have yourself tested for all sorts
of allergies.

In the meantime, switch your shampoo to something all natural or, at least
to Baby Shampoo.

Take care,
ar

How about a tar based shampoo (Polytar in Canada I believe)

Coal tar actually causes acne. It is used for psiorasis, but not for acne.

hummmm, i do have that problem too, it's very painful, and i feel like i'm
a monster.

as i said in another thread, i have crohn disease, i really don't know if
it has something to do with that, but before i had crohn, it started after
i had chicken-pox (varicella) when i was 19.

i had a breakout then stopped for a long while, after i started to have
crohn it appeared again, when i had my surgical operation because crohn i
had to take cyprofloxaxin (it's probably bad written) and it worked very
well, it cleaned my scalp as well my face, and during my stay at the
hospital i took large doses of antibiotics and my skin was great as well
my scalp.

it continued great during the last 2 years, but now i am with another
breakout.

i use a shampoo called dermo ph 5,5 it's really good, but it's seems that
i have to take another dose of antibiotics, but i have to be very careful
because of crohn.

bye
