I have read many of the posts and just wanted to see if others had
good success with an Accutane containment program for scalp acne. I
have tried all the shampoos--Denorex, TGel, Selsun, H&S,
non-prescription Nizoral, tea tree oil etc. and am now on prescription
Nizoral--which works OK for dandruff but doesn't help at all on the
scalp acne.

I've also had some other prescription shampoo which did not
work--CapEx and some others.

I tried minocycline--100 mg 1x/day--which did not work. Then I went to
cephalexin--500 mg 2x/day--which works much better (but not
completely) but if I stop taking it the scalp acne comes right back.

So, I am looking for an alternative to a lifetime of cephalexin--which
I have already stopped taking and the acne/scratches are back after
just a week.
Thanks.

I would never take accutane again. It caused depression and confusion and
thinned my skin so much that I was bleeding from everywhere. When my period
lasted for an entire month I got off of it. Clear skin isn't worth damaging
your entire body for.

If you acne is mild, then please don't do accutane. I would strongly
suggest a diet change first. Cut out grains, eat lots of fruit and fresh
veggies, cut out all refined sugar.

Take care,

I've been of chocolate for a year, and 3 weeks ago I stopped eating white
bread and, everything with oil, salt, suggar, white flower,...

lately this has been my diet

0.9% fat milk
bread(unrefined flower)
honey(unrefined)
oranges, peaches,....
red meat, - cooked/fried with no oil and other stuff
cooked potatoes, fresh salads(no pesticides), other veggies
diferent kinds of fish, all cooked, no oil, except for olive

I still get a few, and I'm not sure what causes them.

Hi Lucky,

I'm going to pretend that we know for a fact that your acne is caused by
food. Here are my comments about your diet:

Milk contains iodine which can cause acne
Bread has gluten which can cause you problems. Plus, it is a carb which
depending on how sensitive you are, could be a problem. If you have celiac
disease, a tiny bit could be a huuuuge problem.
Peaches are high in pesticides. Try nectarines instead.
Red meat could be full of hormones and antibiotics that might cause your
acne.
Potatoes are a carb and should be avoided. Especially if they are white
potatoes. Switch to sweet potatoes.
Fish is full of iodine which can cause acne.

As you can see, one can nitpick their diet to the point of insanity. Smile My
point being that you are still eating foods that could be causing your acne.
If you wish to explore the food issue more, then take a look at what else
you want to cut out for a short time to see if it helps any.

Also, it could take a while for your body to detox the foods that are
causing you trouble even if you've already cut them out.

Good luck.

Hi Lucky,

It's really up to you to do some experimenting if you want. All I can tell
you is that I've had pretty severe acne all my life and finally figured out
it was the food I was eating. As long as I stick to my diet, then my skin
is clear. I've been on just about all the acne medications around and
nothing ever worked.

Take care,
ar
