Why haven't my white blood cells developed resistance to P.Acnes after a
decade of fighting them on the barren, pockmarked battlefield that is my
face?
Why does the dead lifeless bodies of our heroic white cells still erupt in
mass graves of pus-filled heaps?
Why haven't my body won the war against the evil bug Propionibacterium
acnes?
Why?

Good question Very Happy

Have you read those articles that suggested that acne might signal an
improved immune system that actually serves to keep us less
disease-prone than people without acne?

(Well, IIRC, it was theory, dunno if anything new came out since then).

It's quite likely that it's the opposite.
People with acne have, in the main, been shown to have much the same levels
of p.acnes bacteria than non-sufferers. Everybody has p.acnes.
The theory is therefore, that acne sufferers exhibit an abnormally high
immune reaction to the bacteria
So, your good ol' white cells are overly enthusiastic......

My understanding is that bacterial growth, of any kind, is self-limiting, as
a symbiotic relationship is usually needed for non-threatening bacteria to
survive. It may be a Ph thing, or competition with other organisms like
yeasts etc that stabilise p.acnes numbers.
If you are overly sensitive and your skin (in)balance induces high numbers
of p.acnes, then its a recipe for acne.
