Dear Gillian,
There is a sexually transmitted disease that has those symptoms. Chancroid
(Haemophilus ducreyi) is a baterial STD with starts are a tended bump at the
spot of infection (i.e., the penis, scrotum, etc.). These sores may be
soft, very tender, ragged, beefy red, and filled with pus. Antibiotics will
treat this, but there may be scarring.
See your doctor.

Hi Gillian, hi Jody
It might be a folliculitis, which is in most cases only a cosmetic
problem. Can be treated by topicals (antibiotics), for most people
sunlight also does the job (but thats difficult on the scrotum).
Anyway, Chancroid is _wrong_, but a nice try.
I would't worry too much, if you are really bothered, see a doc.

I'd say yes, but Art seems to disagree with my "diagnosis". I'm not an MD
(yet), and I haven't seen your scrotum (this isn't an invitation to do so,
either!) so I can't really say. It was just an idea!

Gillian,
I had the same problem. I am assuming that you (like I) were involved in sports
from a young age. I'm an ultra-marathoner and trust me... with a "sack-o-marbles"
between rubbing between your legs after 50 or 100 miles... HEY, things start to
happen.
I had recurring ring worm near my arm pits or on my butt. It would only breakout
where either my shorts or shirt seams were. I assumed it was from the sweat and
rubbing of the seams. Anyway, my doctor gave me Lamisil cream and it worked
wonders. So I figured, hey, give it a try. Constant use on the old "marble sack"
for about 2 weeks cleared it up. Since then I've had little problems but I apply
it every now and then.
I tried the sun thing once though... fell asleep and got sunburn!!
