Hi,

Apologies, I am posting a rather long message! Please help: In the
last couple of months I have developed adult acne. It looks and feels
exactly like the acne I had suffered as a teenager up until my early
twenties. It never responded to OTCs, anti-biotics, etc, but cleared
up on its own once I became sexually active. My first birth control
method was the pill.

I am now in my early thirties, and I have had very clear skin for over
a decade through high-stress college life, work life, three
pregnancies etc. I have been off of the pill for seven years during
which I was either pregnant or nursing or planning on the next
pregnacy. My weaning of my youngest began about two months ago which
is when I started noticing acne.

I am planning to go back to using the pill (after seven years of being
off of it). However, I now have high triglycerides and have also been
diagnosed of having gallstones. I do not plan to have my gallbladder
removed because I do not have typical or painful symptoms. Is it safe
to take ORTHO TRICYCLEN under these circumstances? I am very keen on
this particular pill because it is believed to clear up acne. What
tests and/or questions should I ask my OBGYN and/or family physician
to know if ORTHO is right for me? Since I have been off of the pill
for so long, and hear harmone-therapies are not so good for women as
it was once thought to be, I don't know where to start. I am really
not so concerned about birth control as I am to get rid of my acne. I
just know nothing except harmone balance will clear it up. Nothing
worked for me as a teenager. Please help by sharing you knowledge,
advice, and thoughts.

Peace!
Sapn

Well, of course, we aren't doctors here. You need to speak to your doctor
about your concerns. An acne board isn't the best place to get information
concerning women's hormones.

If you want my personal opinion, then I'll tell you that the acne you are
having now may not be in any way related to the acne you had as a teenager.
It could be caused by something completely different.

Take care,
ar
