Archived from groups: alt>skincare>acne (more info?)

Hi All--Found your news group & glad I did. I've suffered through cystic
acne all my life. I'm a 40 year old wife & mom of 3 (i.e., hormonal issues
factor into my acne).

Anyhow, I had been using Proactiv for the past 6 years--and it worked GREAT
at totally eliminating my acne. I used Steps 1 and 2 every night and
alternated with Step 3 about 3 times per week (more during really bad acne
spells). I got severe drying if I used any of the products more than once a
day.

Anyhow, with time Proactiv stopped working for me. All it did was make my
skin dry and flakey, and for some reason I kept getting pustules. I went to
the Neutrogena Salicylic Acid acne products, but they just didn't work for
me.

Anyhow, about a month ago I started using L'Oreal's Pure Zone Steps 1 and 2,
and they are phenomenal! They too are based on Salicylic Acid, but the
scrub has just the right amount of exfoliation for me. The toner is just
strong enough to keep my skin free from bacteria and regenerating new cells
regularly.

I do not use the L'Oreal Step 3, because that would overly dry my skin.
Instead, I spot-treat bad spots, first with a tiny bit of Zapzyt (a BP
product) and then with Stridex Fruit Therapy Maximum Strength Acne Cream.
On top of it all I use Neutrogena Sensitive Skin moisturizer.

This whole system has been a huge "silver bullet" for my acne. I think that
I just needed a break from the really strong BP-based products like
Proactiv. Now that I am on mostly Salicylic Acid products, my skin seems a
lot calmer and the acne pustules are 100% gone (for about a month, which is
pretty good).

Anyhow, I wanted to share my good news with you all. I hope it's helpful.
Your thoughts?

I've been using steps 1 & 3 for a while now. The scrub is amazingly good
somehow managing to reduce all the red marks on my face and the
'Sebo-Calmyl' whatever that is really does seem to reduce sebum output,
without drying my skin.

And the moisturiser with salicylic acid is even better, it soaks up the
grease and evens my skin tone making my face look blemish free and non
greasy but not like it has make up on.

I had to stop using step 2, the pore tightening lotion, as it was too
drying.

It certainly didn't get rid of my acne but once my acne's under control it
helps make my skin look really healthy.
