Hi all,
I have been lurking here for the past week or so, and am now shopping around
for B5 (haven't decided where to get it from yet....any recommendations? I'm
in the U.S.)
Anyway, I came across posts about B12 and B6 inducing acne, and I ran to my
Murad Pure Skin Supplement to see if it contains much of either, and it was
like 4000% of RDA !!!
I wonder if I should stop these now? Did anyone have bad experience with
these?
Also, I don't hear people mention Murad's skincare line much, or other lines
like DDF, Skinceuticals, etc, Needless to say, after hearing all the good
reviews about Proactive , I think I am tempted to try it (Or Klear Action), but
I was just curious why people don't mention anything (good or bad) about lines
that advertise their acne skincare?
Any advice you share would be much appreciated, esp about Murad, Proactive,
Klear Skin, where to buy B5 online/in the stores?
thanks!!

If you're looking for prices, acnemiracle.com used to have the cheapest
b5 per gram. Check prices that way (cents per gram) first, and also try
to buy from a good place (heat exposure degrades it). You can find b5
sold as Pantothenic Acid in any US healthfood store.
If you are Female, b6 will help your monthly cycle breakouts. Don't
worry about that. B12 isn't as much a problem, and seems to be hit or
miss. Really, I wouldn't worry about it, but if you think the vitamin is
contributing to the problem, then stop taking it and try to find one
with lower levels.
(Oh, fwiw, the b5 acne megadose is like 20,000 times the RDI!)
I tried the Murad acne formula years ago, and it was horrible for my
skin. But my skin does not tolerate glycolic acid very well, and at that
time the Murad program for acne was very reliant on glycolic acids. I
occasionally check the website product listing for them, but I never
hear any big raves for their products, so I don't buy them.
(oh, wait, I did buy their sulfur (?) acne spot treatment stuff a few
years ago that was actually good stuff. But it wasn't amazing, so I
didn't buy it again.)
I don't know why the DDF isn't talked more about here. I always see and
hear about stuff various lines they sell at dermstore.com, that I just
never feel like ordering. I only order stuff that seems vastly different
to stuff I already have.
BUT
a Bath & Body Works near me just started selling "Murad, MD
Formulations, Joey New York, DDF, Peter Thomas Roth, DeCleor and Juice
Beauty. Esteticians are on staff to analyze customers skin types and
help solve your skin problems!"
Weeeeeeeeee! I couldn't go in the last time because I was with
non-skin obsessed people, but I do intend to go check out all the
products there one day when I have a lot of time. I'll try to find
product recs for those lines at bb or mua, first...
If you are going on B5 megadose, you probably will need a more gentle
routine than you do now. So I wouldn't go on Proactiv AND megab5 at the
same time.

Hi ther,e
Thank you so much for all the useful information provided in your reply!!!! I
am going to try the B5 for sure (from GNC), and that was a very good pointer
that you said about not trying something too harsh at the same time. I was
almost going to do that!
I also want to get rid of some scars...would MSM or Vit C help? In what dosage
shoudl I take ? Or are these topical?

Both can be used orally or topically.
Oral MSM supposedly takes a while to show results (2months or more) but
they say it does help. It's very safe to take, so worth trying. Buy the
powder form (not capsules or tablems). It's more pure that way, plus it
is easier to use for making topicals. Making topical msm (toner or spray
or lotion) is very simple and effective and cheaper than buying it in a
store. If you do buy the MSM topical, only buy gel, most of the creams
have comedogenic ingredients in them. If you get the powder or capsules,
let me know, I'll post the link for making your own topical from it. I
didn't find the topical helped with scars, but it is calming and great
for itching or sunburn..
Vitamin C topical is (imho) the best starting point for topical scar
relief. It should help fade *old* red marks. Within weeks of using it.
But for new red marks (6 months or less), it doesn't work as fast. Be
sure to buy a good formula of at least 10%.. orangedaily or cellex-c are
good formulas.
You can also take Vit E and Vit C orally to help with scars. Vit E
(topically) can aggravate breakouts, though, so don't use that on
breakout prone areas.
Get a good multivitamin or (at least) b-complex if you are taking the
high b5 dose. And be sure to get enough biotin with it..

Hi Kita,
Thank you soooo much for your reply. You said to take enough Biotin? How much
do I need?
Also, I will look for MSM in a powder form. Could you give me the link to the
site on how to make my own?
Can I use this on top of BP or Salicytic acid , or should I just use it on
scars and not pimples?
thanks again !!!

They removed one page of recipes, but here's the recipe for making a lotion:
http://www.a1msm.co.uk/msm_lotion_recipe.htm
Basically, dissolve the msm in warm water. If you get crystals in it, it
is too much msm, dilute further.
Add this to the cream of your choice OR what I did was to just use the
msm water as a toner, after cleansing. It feels/acts like water, but
also cures itchiness or other minor problems.
You can use this under BP or sal acid. OR rather, *I* used it underneath
(or mixed with) both with no problems. YMMV, it never hurts to spot test.

Thanks for this information, Kita. I have a huge bottle of MSM in powder
form and it is so bitter that I forget to put it in juice to drink. This
gives me something to do with it.

You're welcome! You can also pour it into empty veggiecaps if you want
to take it internally (though I'm sure you know that)..
I add msm to a lot of powders, lotions and potions that I use.
It also works GREAT if you get a bug bite or anything itching, just
spray some of the msm in water onto the skin! I leave some of this in my
fridge for fire ant bites or whatever.. >> Stay informed about: Murad Pure Skin Supplement has B12 and B6 |
