I started on Minocycline (100mg 2/day) on November 4th and have been
experiencing some interesting physical phenomenon.

After the third day on the drug, I started to lose my sense of taste
(in terms of food flavor). I can still taste salt and sugar, but other
flavors are hard to perceive.

A few days after that, I started to feel like I was walking around in
some sort of electrical distortion field. My hands, face, feet and
chest tingle or even burn most of the time. The signals I receive from
my skin is that it's raw and dry, but my skin is actually ok. A burst
of cold air or cold water against the skin, or any kind of physical
exertion, gets the tingling really going.

I mentioned this to my doctor today over the phone, but he never heard
of such a reaction to minocycline. He suggested I try a lower dosage
and see what happens.

I experienced similar effects when I last took Minocycline almost 9
years ago. So much was going on back then that I attributed the
effects to stress. Back then, my doctor took me off the Minocycline,
fearing that I was having an allergic reaction. Over the next few
weeks, the symptoms did not subside, and actually got worse, so
eventually I went back on Minocycline. After a few weeks the problems
went away. I stayed on Minocycline for several months after that with
no more problems.

So I am assuming if I stick with it, the odd effects will subside as
it did last time. But it is so damn odd and sometimes quite intense. A
little frightening at times too.

Anyone else experience anything like this on Minocycline?

I experienced dizziness for the first few weeks. Also, I think my short-term
memory became really bad within the time I took Mino.

I have been off and on Micocycline for years. I have rosacea, I guess (on my
nose, of all places), that acts alot like acne, so several doctors have
prescribed Mino for me.

Besides the fact that the pill isn't all that effective, to be honest (my -- in
my opinion -- bizarre form of acne/rosacea is very stubborn) -- I noticed that
sometimes it made me feel a tad dizzy, and almost like I was in a bit if a
"dream" state. Also, some of my senses seemed just a BIT heightened. Now, I
have to be honest, this occured whenever I would pop "extra" pills out of anger
and spite in desperation to beat back a nasty flare-up, but still, I don't
think your experience is all that strange -- ALTHOUGH, you seem to be more
sensitive than usual to this drug.

If it works for you, I'd give it a little while longer. Minocycline was okay,
actually, just not a "miracle" for me. It works best in conjunction with a
topical. In any event, I'd see a doctor about your symptoms and not give up
hope quite yet.

I have been on Minocycline for a year. It's
easier to start with a small dose of 50 mg
a day and build it up to whatever the doctor
prescribed for you. Beside somnolence, which seem
to be a standard side effect with this drug, the
only problem I experienced when I started off
on a too high dosage was itchiness and at the time I could
have scratched my legs off they were so itchy.

As it is, I am satisfied with Minocycline, 50 mg
taken twice a day.

Don't feel bad if you can't tolerate Monocycline,
many folks are very allergic to this drugs.

I get a weird spacey feeling from minocycline. It makes me irritable and
forgetful. I have difficulty concentrating. My doctor finally switched me to
doxicycline... seems just as effective, no noticeable side effects.

100mg 2/day is a bit too much! 50mg taken once or twice
would have been easier for you.

We react differently to prescription drugs. What may work for one
may not for another. A paradox, yes, but that's the way it is. I am
on Clonazepam to help control a neurological disease that I have and
this on is making me forgetful at time.

What is it that I just wrote? Smile

Hi, I was having problems with acne since I was a teenager, I'm 32 now and continue to deal with acne. Well Back in October of 2007 I went to a dermatologist that prescibed minocycline 100mg. Now I have never ever been sick until I took this medicine. My first reaction was throat and tongue swelling I couldn't breath so I called 911 when I got to the hospital I then developed sores on my tongue that was never there. They did nothing for me, said that I appeared fine and the sores on my tongue was an oral virus which was strange to me. They sent me home and I've never been the same since. I have had episodes of feelings of electricity through my arms chest, light headedness, my hands and neck swells at times I've seen many doctors that says they don't believe its from the medicine. My docotor diagnosed me with minocycline arthoalgia because my joints and muscles constantly hurt. I PROMISE none of this was going on until taking minocycline. So now my doc is sending me Cleveland Clinic and they told me that their going to take the ingredients in the medicine and test against my blood to see what it was I am allergic to. I thought I was the only one this ever happened to please some e-mail me at (tattie29@yahoo.com) if you had a bad reaction to this medicine let me know something needs to be done about this
