Low dose accutane

Hi,

I've been on a low dose of roaccutane for several months, after my acne
returned after two previous full courses.

I've been taking 40mg/day for 1 week every month and have been experiencing
quite a severe breakout for the one week that I'm taking the drug then
nearly three weeks of clear grease free skin.

Is it likely that lowering the dose or splitting it to twice a month would
prevent the breakout I'm getting every month?

I used to take basically the same dosage, except spread out. I would
take 10mg/day, which means I would have a cumulative monthly dosage of
280mg to 310mg.

40mg per day for one week per month comes out to 280mg per month, which
is basically the same dosage.

I didn't break out during the 3 years I was on the 10mg/day regimen. I
can't say that would work for you: Maybe you would end up breaking out
all the time instead. Or maybe you too would stop having breakouts.

Taking 10mg/day is more expensive than taking 7 40mg pills per month.
So maybe you can try taking 40mg every 4 days. Of course, you should
probably ask your derm.
