Low Dose Accutane Question - Right now I am on my first month of Accutane taking 40mg twice a day for a total of 80mg a day, I will be on it for four months. I never had bad acne just very white bumps that came to heads every now and again. They were mostly on my chin area..

high dose vitamin e and low dose accutane - I stopped the 1000 iu of vitamin e about a week or so ago and increased the accutane from 10 mg every other day to 10 mg / day and my skin is much better. I would stay away from vitamin e while on low dose accutane and probably vitamin e just on its own.

I am on the 13th day of this script using a 20mg/day dosage, about
half of what a full strength dose is. Some observations and questions:

Two days before going on this, I had 3 eruptions. Full dose accutane
would have knocked them out in one week, but the low dose seems to be
taking its time, that is, the zits are not completely flattened, and
on one, there is peeling that flakes off one "layer" of skin every 2-3
days. What remains is still red/dark pink. At this rate, the
improvement in skin tone is no better than normal healing (six
months).

In the past week, I got two eruptions in places I have not experienced
acne in years- the side of the nose and on an eyebrow. These are dark
red, and if you touch them, there is pain on the nerve endings
(unusual for me). It is almost like an allergic reaction. Around this
time I was using nasal spray (Flonase). Shit, what the hell is going
on?

Like many of you who are on low dose or full dose, I've been searching
for a cleanser which does not make you look worse than you did
pre-accutane. Cetaphil liquid is gentle but it does not clean well. It
also contains lauryl sulfate. Neutrogena unscented glycerin soap is
now too harsh for me. Ivory soap is good but seems to leave a residue
which increases dermatitis. Any Neutrogena product with
stearic/stearate compounds and salicylic acid is a timebomb. I am
running out of options to wash my face. This is really frustrating.

The cure is worse than the disease. How long, how long? I need some
guidance.

Started working immediately for me but I only had pimples, nothing cystic.
For others it takes up to 12 weeks to start seeing results! yikes.

Is this your first time on accutane? (because you mention full dosage would
ahve cleared it in a week). If so dont panic, a big outbreak is normal for
most on accutane. For some it happens early and others later on.

This is the second course. The first was way back around 6-8 years
ago. It worked great while it lasted.

I don't understand the doctor's logic in starting out slow.
Intuitively it should be full dose tapering down to a long term low
dose. I am totally frustrated by this disease. It doesn't border on
the fatal, like cancer, but it sure makes your life miserable over a
longer period of time.

ah I understand your frustration then and I know exactly where your coming
from. Acne has pretty much ruined my life. Im on week 10 of accutane
(first time) and really hoping it works for me. How long were you on
accutane the first time? Did it clear your skin completely? How long was
it until acne started reappearing, recently or a slow build up over the
last 6-8 years?
