Hi...

I am in my late 30s, male and Asian.

I have been having this problem for about 2-3 years now, I have used
doxycycline for a while, 7 days, 14 days or even upto 30 days
continuously, although it is very effective during the treatment,
however, when I finish the entire course, the problem will come back
again after 3-4 days. The pimples are quite painful and only grow on
my scalp, and can have up to 7-8 at any one time.

I am using a medicated shampoo now, it is called Nizoral. It is also
quite effective at the beginning, however, after 2 weeks, the problem
comes back again now.

I am thinking of taking doxycycline antibiotic pills for life, since
it is the only drug I have tested and can help to control my acne
problem. Wondering anyone can advise is this a good solution to take
doxycycline everyday for the next 20-30 years ?

Also, anyone can advise me a better solution that can cure this silly
problem once and for all.

Truly appreciate all your advise and suggestion, and I hope something
can be done to get away this nightmare soon.

Best wishes,
Taylor

If you have been just shampooing you can crank up the effectiveness of
this and other medicated shampoos. Coat your dry scalp with a thin
layer of the shampoo about a half hour before bathing. This allows
the active ingredients to penetrate a bit and gives any fungal
infection a lot bigger exposure. The one kind of shampoo you have to
be careful with using this method is those that contain pyrithione
zinc. This ingredient is a biocide and, with long enough exposure,
will retard the growth of hair and even attack skin cells. But it is
also very effective against anything microbial on the surface of your
skin.

Eventually, the bugs you are fighting will evolve immunity to this
drug. But using a good surface antimicrobial treatment at the same
time you are taking antibiotics is good, short term, because there are
no places for the bugs to hide.
