I have these cracked/dry skin patches on numerous sections on both hands (on
a finger, in the areas where thumb meets hand, on palm below pinky).
Sometimes they go away and heal, but for the most part they don't. I've
tried drinking lots of water and using various lotions and vasolines. I've
even tried ripping off all off the dried/cracked skin and then covering it
with creams and a bandaid. But it always comes back the same!
Can anyone recommend anything? Changing soap (I used regular Ivory)? A
special cream? >> Stay informed about: Cracked/dry skin on hands, help! |

You might try adding MSM (say, 1000 mg per day) to your diet. It is a
nutrient that is involved in the production of all tensile tissue.

In most drug stores and groceries, yes (in the herbal and food
supplement section). It is an organic form of the mineral, sulfur
(methyl sulfonyl methane) present in all living cells, but heat
sensitive, so destroyed in cooked food. If you lived on sushi and raw
fruits and vegetables you would already have plenty in your diet.

Sounds like you might have eczema. Not a serious condition, but I would see
a dermatologist.

there is a fairly inexpensive product (like $5 a tube) called "Nelson's
Calendula Cream" that I have had good results with for healing persistent
cracking. (My issue is fingertips and close regions that get cracked up from
handling small computer parts with lots of sharp edges that are difficult to
grip and pull on without damaging the skin surface.) There are a couple other
"crack cream" products available at big drugstores (like Walgreens) that you
might try, also the Neutrogena concentrated "Norwegian formula". Also you can
try upping your Vitamin C, Zinc, and Vitamin A intake, all are needed for tissue
repair.
The Nelson's product you'll have to find at a natural foods store, probably.
