Would it be safe to give yourself cortisone shots on a big cyst? If I have a
big cyst I have to wait at least a month for a visit with my derm to get a
cortisone shot.

Putting aside the issue of the potential danger of your injecting yourself (I
assume you don't have medical training), the reason your doctor will see you
only once a month almost certainly is to prevent a toxic buildup of steroids in
your system. Anyone who needs steroids for the alleviation of inflammation in a
part of their body, for example, people with spinal problems, is told at the
outset that (s)he can get steroids only a very limited number of times a year.

If you try to make an end-run around your dermatologist, you could end up with
much bigger problems, and believe me, I do sympathize.

Or, if it's merely a problem of the doctor's not being able to give you an
appointment for a month, find another doctor. A cortisone injection only takes
a minute and many doctors will squeeze in patients for a procedure like that

But I wouldn't make cortisone shots a regular practice if you have any other
alternative.

Good Luck.

although i think accutane is a much more effective treatment than cortisone,
would not recommend self-medication with it either. among its many publicized
side effects, accutane raises an individual's blood lipids level. doctors
usually test for heightened levels a few times during the five-month treatment.

not for low dose accutane, and I would rather deal with that than cortisone
