Archived from groups: alt>skincare>acne (more info?)

Hi, I've seen a few commercial products offering B5 and other ingredients
such as Biotin (useful as B5 depletes Biotin) and other good skin
ingredients such as Zinc, all in a ready-prepared capsule. Does anyone have
any experience of any of the following? Their web sites look quite
knowledgeable, but what counts is if their product is high grade and worked
for anyone here or anyone you know?:

http://www.b5supplements.com/
http://www.acnerid.com/
http://www.store.yahoo.com/vitacures/vitb5clear.html

(http://www.proactiv.com/index.php - not B5 but got my interest, any
positive feedback?)

I also cannot find a single shop in the whole of the UK where I can buy
*powdered* B5! As the contents of a capsule (not tablet) is just powder, is
it just as good to take a capsule as it is powder? Anyone here found them
just as effective?

Thanks.

PS: http://www.acnemiracle.com/home.html also looks good. They sell the
powder and a 20% B5 gel all in one package, along with Biotin and Niacin as
used in the Leung study.

Acnonymous <-- lol, just caught that name Wink

b5supp I think is okay, vitacure is not bad, afaik..

But I'd go with www.acnemiracle.com
8 cents a gram and the product includes optizinc in the formula.
They guarantee it, minus 15% and shipping and handling, for 60 days.
Their customer service rep came here (to ASA ng) and was helpful, I was
impressed with her.
And the stuff gets good reviews as far as potency.

I am not affiliated nor have anything to do with them. But last I
checked, they were the best value. There may be newer companies that now
have stuff cheaper, I haven't price shopped for over 6 months.

Basically there are only a couple manufacturers of Pantothenic Acid.
It's then resold to distributors under different labels and different
formulas. It's here that problems can occur. Improper storage or pill
manufacturing (specifically heat exposure) will render the product
useless. So you want to find a distributor/rebottler who gets good
reviews, since it's less likely it's being exposed to heat. Of course it
can still happen in the shipping, but you're better off. But the
original B5 is almost always from the same source. Just different
pricing, unless it's mixed with other stuff (good or bad (fillers))

Aside from formulas like acnemiracles' and a few others, that add in
other vitamins (selenium, biotin, etc), basically you want to find the
best price *per gram*. And preferably not "closeout" where the stuff
would be old or heat exposed.

They include a B5 gel with their B5 blend, too. Never tried it,

Thanks guys. I had ordered it 2 days before your reply, as I too was
impressed by feedback and the gel. Basically they claim to supply the exact
same thing used in the Leung experiments, so if I follow that I know I have
a very high success chance.

That said, and I hope I don't speak too soon, after 4 weeks on the
time-release B5 tablets (10g) from Holland & Barrat, I am starting to see a
marked improvement. The only other things that could be causing that are:

Recent diet change
Taking acidophilus
Starting salicylic acid
Increasing Retin-A usage
Stopping my mega-dose multi-vitamin

It's so hard to tell which it could be, or it may be a combination of all or
some. Do any of you have any good strategies for timing regarding
reintroducing/removing the above things, to see if they were helping?

One thing I don't say is that B5 doesn't work, because it does (work).
10g a day is going to clear many people's skin, at least initially.
(well, by initially i mean the first year. Often there's an initial
breakout period of a few months, but I'm not counting that.)

Why are you stopping the megadose vitamin? You absolutely need to take a
b-complex tablet to (somewhat) minimize any b-vite deficiencies causes
by the b5 megadose.

Your skin may start to dry out, so the retin a and/or sal acid might
need to be phased out, anyway, if you stay on the 10g/day dose.

Hopefully diet changes will allow you to go to maintenance dose asap, so
I would continue with those.

B5: Does it cause hairloss? - uh oh. Thats one thing I CANNOT risk, as I am already thinning somewhat. Some of the reviews I'm reading online show hairloss as a side effect. Is this true or mainly hype/placebo? (i.e. the hair would have been lost anyway)
