Post subject: What's like Benzoyl Peroxide???
Archived from groups: alt>skincare>acne (more info?)

Hi, I started using BP a while ago and it worked wonders! My skin was
spotless... but over the past few months my skin has gotten alot worse. I
did some research on the internet and came to the conclusion that most
likely my skin adapted to the BP. My question is this: is there a product
out there that does the same thing as BP that the skin does not adapt to
(rendering the product basically useless).

Also I have sensitive skin so no harsh products. If I use a 5% BP my face
goes red for days and gets very dry... my face could only handle 2.5%

Thanks alot guys!

Benzoyl Peroxide is the one thing that bacteria don't adapt to, because
it reduces fatty acids and also oxygenates them (suffocates them, in a
sense). So in that sense, it's among the only topicals that will work
indefinitely..

But it's possible that your skin has thickened or otherwise changed and
for that reason it doesn't seem to work as well.. As always, YMMV (your
mileage may vary).

Is it possible the the BP gel you're using has comedogenic ingredients
that are causing a cyclical problem? Or are you over irritating/drying
your skin from using it? I have sensitive skin too, I find that using a
moisturizer before or with the BP helps to buffer it's irritation.

Why do you think your skin has "adapted" to the BP? I suspect something
else might be contributing. Have you tried applying it just before a
shower, and letting it "steam in"?

For other topicals to consider:
I HIGHLY recommend you try Oxygen Drops. They work on the same premise
as BP, but it does not irritate (you can drink the stuff!), dry the skin
out, and it does not bleach. (yayyyy for that!!) This is the first stuff
I've seen to shrink an "undergrounder" in one day! Buy a small bottle (I
use Rose Creek Vitamin O, but there are various brands, ask your local
health food store which one they recommend) and try it out. I thought
this stuff was expensive tap water until I tried it. It really works for
my skin. HTH.

Should I buy the spray or the drops?

If you have equal access to both, I'd buy the spray to start out with,
esp. if you have a larger surface area to treat. You want the O2 drops
to "sit" on your face and slowly evaporate/soak in. That's easier to do
with a spray. But once your face clears up, drops are better, so you can
spot treat and not waste product on clear areas.....
