Hello,

I have sufferred from pastular acne from about the age of 15 and still
do into my adult life (now I am 2Cool.

Many postings and articles on the web recommend B5 or vitamin B-
complex for
stress induced acne.

Is it a good idea to try a low-dosage of accutance or B5.?? I am sure
the Derm.
would prefer to give me B5 since I do not have cystic acne. Only
chronic pastular acne.. But I feel getting accutance would help me
shrink the oil glands
on my T-zone wouldn't it.??

Thanks,
acne_veteran.

Hi. I'm 38 and also have postular acne. I don't know which treatment would
work best for you. Accutane didn't work for me and B vitamins make my acne
worse. Go figure. Good luck.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Oh man!! Is there hope for me then??

My objective in life is to get rid of the pastules - I have no
problem with reddish pimples. I just hate it when it turns into
pastules - looks uncomfortable for me and for everyone else.

So, Grant sir, how do you control your acne condition??
Please shed light on your methods. I use mainly oral antibiotics.

Thanks,
bruised_&_battered_acne_veteran.

Hi Reticent,

The thing is to figure out what is actually causing your acne. Antibiotics
can actually be one of the worst things to take if your acne is NOT caused
by bacteria. For instance, there are a lot of people who have acne as a
symptom of candida yeast infection. Taking antibiotics allows the yeast to
continue to grow.

It took me a very long time but I finally figured out that it was processed
sugar that causes my acne. (Along with Vitamin B12, tea tree oil, and nuts)
As long as I stick to my diet, my skin is clear. As soon as I start eating
sugar (or take vitamins or use a product with tea tree oil or eat some nuts)
then the acne comes back. It takes about 3 weeks for the acne to surface.

So, if antibiotics aren't working for you, then stop taking them. You
aren't helping your body any and may be causing more problems.

I'm 33 and have suffered with acne for nearly 20 years, never severe but
always mild to moderate. The only thing I know for sure is that your diet
does play a role, despite all the bullshit you hear from derms. A diet high
in sugar and carbs can be tough on your skin. If it's bad enough, it can
cause outbreaks of eczema and acne, if you are prone to skin problems.
Stress also plays a role, a big one. Washing your face too much or with hot
water can make your acne worse. Use luke warm water and don't wash more
than twice daily. Also use a good, fragrace-free soap.

The major breakout areas for me in my teens and twenties were on my forehead
and along my jawline. Now, I rarely break out on my forehead anymore, just
along my jawline (probably ingrown hairs). To solve this problem, I shave
with a good razor and use Benzashave shaving cream, it seems to eliminate
about 75 percent of my jawline acne. I've also learned that a little sun on
my skin is ok but using the sun to try and burn acne off will only make
things worse in the long run.

Oh yeah, B5 did not work at all for me.
