Dear All sufferers,

I am male live in the UK and have had acne since i was 16 and i am 24
now and believe me it has totally f***ed up my life.
I have no confidence what so ever, havent had a gf for ages try avoid
going out during daytime, had to leave a good job cause i was always
concious on meeting customers, lighting etc... anyway enough moping.

I have (touch wood) managed to keep my actual acne flare up and
pimples to a minimum, thanks to in large part to the B5 (wish i had
discovered it earlier) i am taking wich i was taking about 10grms a
day but after some great advice by Kita i reduced it to 3grms wich
still works wonders for the oily skin. I also take flaxeed oil (liquid
form) about 3 spoons full daily. Plus biotin 2 mg and sometimes zinc
and evening primrose oil.
I use mother of pearl for the scars and marks on the face wich is ok
but not great.

I want to have some sort of a skin booster and really a confidence
booster seeing the summer is a round the corner(believe it or not). I
did a home peel about a few years ago, wich was ok cost about £200
(skinculture 4000) but i really want to try something more effective
but not expensive.

So does anyone have any advise or experiences and could suggest
something.
Maybe laser, salon peels, chemical peels, dermabarasion....
I have scars left by the acne and feel i just need something to give
me a boost.

If anyone would like to see my pics to give me better advice then just
ask and will e-mail them.

Thanks to anyone who replies and i wish everyone success and joy with
getting rid of the acne and scars. And lets hope we can all do our bit
to help each other get through it. Like i said i am in the uk, if
anyone else is in the uk and wants to to chat... then would be great.

All the best.

Ali.

Hi Ali,

I am sort in the same situation as you. I am 22 male in the UK and am
finding it very difficult to get good advice on skin treatment. I
don't have *very* bad acne or scarring, but its enough to make me self
consious, I also have a couple of moles on my face I'd like to get rid
of.

The difficulty I am finding (purely looking online) is that there are
a million places that all offer some kinda of treatment for this and
that, from chemical peels to lasers to surgery who are all willing to
offer 'consultation'. I'm sure going along to them will not yeild
impartial advice.

I am considering just visiting a GP as a first port of call, but am
also worried that they might not know what to recommend - I don't have
a clue about how to contact a skin specialist that doesn't want to
sell me anything. Perhaps they are at hospitals? Although I feel bad
taking up a doctors time for vantiy when I'm sure they deal with
people who have really bad skin problems. One thing that looks
promising is the NLite laser treatment. Even the BBC news has praised
it and so, it at least seems credible. I have also seen places that
will treat you for £300 which is far less than many other places who
will charge that for just a consultation.

I haven't even begun to think about what its like doing this kind of
stuff as a male...

Without knowing what your scars are like...
Im 40, and had acne since my teens. My back was what I called "pizza
back". I figured it would look scarred and purplish forever. last year
I started on Accutane (cant believe I waited so long) and during the
course of the year the scars have greatly diminished, maybe 90% or so.
It's possible that what I thought were scars were long term cysts that
went away with treatment.
Have you seen dermatologist? If not you should, and probably two of
them to compare what they say.
