Back on March 10 I posted a story about how I could not get Accutane
because of the less-than-smooth migration of doctor and patient data to
the new iPledge systems.
Well, the iPledge system is still biting me. I put off pursuing
Accutane until the systems seemed to be working. Then I got a weird
skin problem and again put off starting on Accutane for a few weeks.
Finally, on April 21, I saw my derm and he said he would register me
and let me know when the registration went through so I could pick up
my prescription.
He called me on May 2 to say I was registered and that my prescription
was ready for me to come and get it. I came in and picked up my
prescription dated May 2. I took it to Long's Drugs and... they
wouldn't fill it. The iPledge system said I was not eligible.
It turns out that the iPledge system requires you to fill your
prescription within 7 days of the doctor's visit, not within 7 days of
when the prescription is written. If you miss that window, you need to
wait another 23 days before you can get your prescription.
I suggested to my doctor that I use the small stockpile that I obtained
from a foreign pharmacy, even though it would not last me the whole 3
weeks (I got 60 10mg pills, but I will be initially taking 40mg/day and
reducing it later). He said "What's another 3 weeks? You might as well
wait and use the quality-assured stuff".
I've been trying to pick up this prescription for 2 months. I guess it
will be even longer still.
