I don't know much about Accutane. So please forgive this newbie
question:

All things being equal, is Accutane *meant* to be a cure for acne? I
mean that as in, if everything goes well, does the patient remain
significantly less acne-prone long after he stops taking Accutane?

Or will the patient have to keep on taking Accutane at regular, timed
intervals... indefinitely... in order to keep the acne away?

That depends on how accutane works for you. It didn't do anything for me
and within 6 months, my acne was back just as bad. I refused to consider
putting what I consider to be a rough poison into my body again on an
ongoing basis.

For some people, they are acne free after one course. For others, they need
two or three courses. For others, they take a low dose everyday.

I now know that my acne is completely related to my diet. And when I eat a
healthy diet, I don't have acne. So, I prefer to treat myself that way as
I'm far more healthy than I would have been if I hadn't changed my diet.

its about as permanent as you can get.. it made me completely clear for 2/3
years..after which i got "mild" acne.. which i will take all day considering
i had "severe" acne.. theres no such thing as a cure for acne.. even the
people who took accutane and say they are "cured".. their skin is far from
perfect.. however..it can work wonders and i dont regret taking it for one
minute.

Yep, depends. I am going on 7 years clear now, but like the other folks
said, it came back for some and not for others.

worked for me. I had bad acne into my 20s and had tried all the other
treatments that were not effective. Got treated with Accutane in my
mid 20s...almost 40 now and never had a problem since that initial
treatment. Aside from a few scars you'd never know I ever had problem
skin.

Nice. Let me ask you, though. After Accutane, when your skin was clear, what
kind of scars did you have left over and did they improve once you had
eliminated the acne?

I have several really shallow scars that I think will fill in and fade if I can
just stop the breakouts.

Did you ever get anything like that?

Peace.
