For my body, it seems a blast of Accutane works *much* better than a
lower, longer course.
Note: I am speaking in terms of results *while on the drug*, not
post-therapy results. I don't get post-therapy results, so I don't
really care about them that much. I care primarily with on-course
results.
Of the 5 Accutane courses I've taken, the 3 "blast-type" courses
cleared my skin pretty early on and kept it clear until the end of the
course.
With my 2 "dribble" like courses (1991 and current), I experienced no
clearing during the treatment.
The dribble courses reached the expected cumulative dosage. Yet, they
didn't provide clearing during the treatment itself.
In all my courses, I experienced no post-therapy results (I can't speak
for the current course dribble, since I am still on it. But considering
I've nearly met the cumulative dosage and I am still breaking out, I
would say the chances of post-therapy results are fairly low).
What have others experienced (at least others that have been on
multiple courses)?
My blast courses were:
(In all three I weighed about 70kg):
1985: 80mg/day for 4 months
1993: 80mg/day for 4 months
1998: 80mg/day for 1 month
120mg/day for 2 months
160mg/day for 1 month
80mg/day for 2 weeks
40mg/day for 2 weeks
20mg/day for 3 months
10mg/day for 2 years
The 1998 course had a rough start (it took more than 6 weeks for my
skin to clear for some reason), but the super-blast provided clear skin
that was easily extended by a maintained source of 10mg/day.
My dribble courses were:
(In the first course I weighed about 70kg, in the second about 75kg):
1991: 40mg for 3 months
80mg for 1 month
120mg for 1 month (OK this is pretty high, and my
skin did clear for the
last 2 weeks or so of the course)
2006: 40mg for 1 month
60mg for 2 months
70mg for 1 month
80mg (current month)
