My doctor has been trying to prescribe me Isotretinoin since March 10,
but it just doesn't seem possible.

On March 10, there was some sort of problem migrating my doctor's
username into the new iPledge system.

On April 21, the next time I tried, there was some sort of glitch which
made it seem as if the 7 day window had passed since the drug was
prescribed, therefore barring me from getting the drug for another 30
days. iPledge support refused to budge on this.

Now 33 days later, we tried again, but that technical glitch is still
haunting me. The doctor simply cannot confirm that I have received
consultation. I called iPledge directly and they say that everything is
fine administratively -- that is, the right amount of time has passed
and I should be able to get the drug -- but that there is some
technical glitch in the system related to the glitch from April 21. The
iPledge technical support team needs a good long dedicated chunk of
time with my derm to straighten this out, but my doctor simply does not
have that sort if time during office hours.

I am starting to think I should just go to court, legally change my
name and social security number, and re-register with iPledge, just to
get past this technical mess with my data in the iPledge system.

I've already bought some, but I would hestitate to characterize it as
illegal. The box goes through customs and they know what's in it.

Unfortunately, I can't get enough, at least from a trustworthy source,
for the dosage at which my derm will start me: He plans to keep me on
40mg per day for several months before bringing me down to a lower
dosage, where I will stay indefinitely (I will be doing a continuous
low dose course, as opposed to a high-dosage, 4 month course). I
actually have more on order. I intend to use this only to fill the gap
if I run into one of these SNAFUs after treatment actually starts.

I would prefer to do things completely on the up and up. Taking a drug
bought from a somewhat anonymous overseas pharmacy makes me nervous.
The package has the brand name on it and looks right (except that all
the text is in French)... but how do I know it's the genuine article? I
will only take it if I have no other choice.

I think it's ironic that iPledge will probably drive up the sales from
overseas pharmacies and therefore increase unsupervised usage of the
drug.

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy the stuff illegally online? Smile

Well, it looks like it succeeded this time. The doctor attempted to
confirm my consultation today, without calling iPledge technical
support, and for some reason it went through.

I went to the pharmacy. After initially scaring me by telling me I was
not in the iPledge system (because they had entered in my birthdate in
the wrong format), they verified that I was eligible to receive the
medication and accepted my prescription. Of course, there is one last
mini-SNAFU: They are out-of-stock. But the hard part, getting confirmed
by the system and getting the prescription accepted by a pharmacy, is
done.
