I went to my dermatologist today, expecting to start on my low dose
Accutane regimen.
But there was a problem. My dermatologist was already registered to
prescribe Accutane, but on March 1st all registrations were moved to a
new system provided by some company contracted by the FDA. This change
was part of the "I pledge" program intended to prevent women from
getting pregnant while on Accutane.
The problem was that my dermatologist's account didn't make the
migration to the new system, at least not yet. He's stuck. He can't
prescribe Accutane, even to his patients who are already in the midst
of treatment.
His office spends 4 non-stop hours a day on hold (via speaker phone)
with this company, waiting for a customer service agent, but that
service agent never answers. The speaker phone keeps saying "Please
hold, an agent will respond in the order that your call has been
received".
So I could not get my Accutane prescription. If he writes one for me,
the pharmacist won't see my dermatologist as registered.
While waiting for this to get resolved, I am back to antiobiotics....
