I want to start taking low dose Accutane, 40mg per week.

Is there any benefit to taking 20mg x 2 as opposed to taking 40mg x 1
each week?

40 mg per week is enough to control acne. It's what is known as a
maintenance dose for people who have already been on a full course of
Accutane. It works even if you've never been on Accutane, but it must
be taken continuously, and won't give you any long term remission.

Well, taking one 40mg pill per week should be cheaper than two 20mg
pills per week. I can't speak to effectiveness.

I took 10mg/day for almost 3 years and that worked great (although
sometimes my lips were a little dry).

Hey Nab,

A few quick questions?

Did you do any kind of "loading" phase for your low dose?

HAd you been on a full course before you started low dose?

When you stopped your low dose did the acne come back?

What are you doing now?

Thanks,
Paul

Thanks. I ask because I am on 40 mg, 2x a day right now. This is my 2nd
course in about 7 years. Hopefully this one will be the last...

I segued from a full course (my 3rd) into the low dose course to
maintain the positive effects (but not the negative effects, for the
most part) of the full dose course. There was no break between the two.

After stopping the low dose course in late 2000, my acne stayed away
completely for a full year. During the 2nd year off the course (2002),
I started to have some problems on and off. In the third year (2003), I
used Duac, and that provided me complete relief for all of that year.
At the start of the 4th year (2004), the Duac mostly lost its
effectiveness. In the fall of 2004, I tried the ClearLight blue light
treatment. After the treatment was done, it didn't seem to have any
effect. But about a month after I completed the treatment, my acne
mostly stopped and stayed away from December 2004 to about July 2005.
For the last few weeks, I've been doing the blue light treatment again.
I am hoping for similarly good results. I never stopped using the Duac,
even when it seemed to lose its effectiveness (and who knows, maybe the
blue light treatment allowed for it to work again).

Duac ruined too many of my nice blouses for me to keep using it, even
when I was really careful about application.
